SEPHIROTH - Draconian Poetry

Draconian Poetry is the new album by Sephiroth, a much anticipated sequel to the 1999 debut, Cathedron, which in itself still finds and enthralls new listeners six years down the road. Once again, Sephiroth takes us along on a trip to the twilight zone inbetween darkness and dawn, to forgotten cities and distant, barely remembered lands, where ancient rituals and Eastern influences meet pounding metallic poly-rhythms emanating from subterranean catacombs. If Cathedron moved along the deep green/blue axis on the chromatic scale - as in the hues of the jungle and the ocean - Draconian Poetry arrives in the earth-tinted spectrum: the brownish soil, the corroding greyness of withering, weather-beaten ruins, and the blindingly green setting sun. Sephiroth is there to meet you, bidding you welcome at the crossroad where civilization ends and the unexplored begins; the threshold where dull reality is terminated in favor of boundless fantasy....

“¿Cómo se puede conocer a fondo el corazón de un hombre? Sólo mediante las lágrimas”. Eso fue lo que dijo el maestro Takuan. No sé cómo llegué a él. Sólo recuerdo el viento y la arena. Las palabras del maestro Takuan se convertían en imágenes al instante que las pronunciaba. Decía tarde y un resplandor grisáceo aparecía en el oscuro muro de su habitación. Le pregunté por los sueños, el cerebro y la realidad; y él, titubeando un poco, me dijo: Los sueños son el mar, el cerebro es la playa y la realidad son las dunas y las ciudades que existen más allá. El cerebro y los sueños siempre se encuentran cerca, tocan sus orillas. “No es agua ni arena la orilla del mar”. Pero existen días en que las olas crecen. Unas olas inmensas cubren la playa y borran las dunas blancas y ondulantes. Las olas llegan a las ciudades y primero envuelven a las mujeres. Cubren la arena. Cubren la realidad. Cuando los sueños llegan hasta esas regiones aparece otra invitada: la locura.

Sephiroth relate stories about the inexorable and destructive power of Time, mankind's futile attempts of resistance, and the sunken cities, fallen towers, and overgrown ruins that this has resulted in. Dark eerie soundscapes and ritualistic drums are combined with own field recordings from places like Cairo, Iceland, and gloomy Nordic forests. Sephiroth's music whispers about the Gods we are desperately trying to appease, only for then finding ourselves dying before the monuments we spent our lives building. Sephiroth bid you welcome into the ruins and down to the deep forgotten catacombs.
